FAQ: How can I disable the automatic update feature of the viewer?

If your users are in a “locked-down” network environment and cannot install any software on their desktops, then any attempt to update the viewer software will result in installation failing since the viewer software is unable to update the Windows registry.  For this reason, you may want to disable auto updates from running.

Note: Even if automatic update checks are disabled users can still manually check for updates using the “Check for Program Updates” option on the Help menu.

To disable automatic updates at viewer installation time:

Install the viewer with the /UPDATE=”0″ switch

  • Lizard Safeguard
    Example of use: SafeguardPDFViewer.exe /UPDATE=”0″
  • Lizard Protector
    Example of use: LL_Protector_Viewer.exe /UPDATE=”0″

To disable automatic updates after the viewer has been installed:

Lizard Safeguard

  1. Open PDCViewer.ini in notepad from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LockLizard\PDCViewer\PDCViewer.ini (Windows XP) or C:\ProgramData\LockLizard\PDCViewer\PDCViewer.ini (Windows Vista)
  2. In [Updater] section add a new value called AutoCheck=0. Save the file and update checks will be disabled.

  4. In [Updater] section add a new value called AutoCheck=0. Save the file and update checks will be disabled.

To re-enable automatic updates

You can either re-install the viewer with the /UPDATE=”1″ switch or edit an ini file.
